LOG PROBLEM
What is the length of a rectangle that has a perimeter of 15.5 cm and a width of 3.4 cm?

Solution
P=2(l+w)
15.5cm = 2(l + 3.4cm)
15.5cm = 2l + 6.8cm
8.7cm = 2l
4.35cm = l

LOG PROBLEM

What is the length of a rectangle that has a perimeter of 14.6 cm and a width of 3.2 cm?

Solution:
P=2(l+w)
14.6cm = 2(l + 3.2cm)

14.6cm = 2l + 6.4cm
-6.4cm -6.4cm

8.2cm = 2l
/2 /2

4.1cm = l

LOG PROBLEM
What is the perimeter of a rectangle that has a width of 4 meters and a length of 8 meters?
SHOW FORMULA WORK!

Solution:
P = 2 (l +w)
P = 2 (8m + 4m)
P = 2(12m)
P = 24m

WORK TODAY
We went over the Math Benchmark results today. Great job 706 and 707! We also calculated the width of a rectangle after being given the perimeter and the length of the rectangle.

Here is a sample problem:
What is the width of a rectangle if the perimeter is 10 cm and the length is 2 cm?
P = 2 (l+w)
10cm = 2 (2cm + w)
10cm = 4cm + 2w

10cm = 4cm + 2w
-4cm -4cm

6cm = 2w
/2 /2

3cm = w

HOMEWORK
Complete the following perimeter problems after being the perimeter and length:
1. p = 30 cm, l = 6 cm, w = ?
2. p = 12 cm, l = 2 cm, w = ?
3. p = 200 cm, l = 40 cm, w = ?
4. p = 45 cm, l = 15 cm, w = ?
5. p = 6 cm, l = 2 cm, w = ?
6. p = 50 cm, l = 10 cm, w = ?
7. p = 8 m, l = 2 m, w = ?

LOG PROBLEM
Evaluate the following expression:
2n – 3(5n +9)

Solution:
2n -15n -27
-13n - 27

WORK TODAY
We did a few more problems dealing with the Distributive Property. We then discussed the formula for Perimeter of a Rectangle and copied it. The class then measured the length and width of their desks and binders. They used those measurements and the formula to calculate Perimeter.

Formula for Perimeter of a Rectangle: Perimeter = 2 (length + width)

Example problem:
Show formula work for a rectangle with a width of 10 cm and a length of 15 cm
P = 2 (l +w)
P = 2 (10 cm + 15 cm)
P = 2 (25 cm)
P = 50 cm

HOMEWORK

Show formula work for calculating the perimeter of the following rectangles:
1.) l = 2 cm, w = 4 cm
2.) l = 4 cm, w = 6 cm
